Little Boxes is a book that looks at American suburbia through the lens of Lakewood, CA, one of the first major suburbs to be constructed after WWII. Throughout the book examples from the past are compared to present day, and personal outlooks on life in this community is examined as well. I took the opportunity to play with materiality and historical documents, and personal photography work. Throughout this book I played around with changed typefaces and numbers to represent house numbers, and played around with box and grid structures as well as a metaphor for the gridded repetition of suburbia. There are five sections of the book, each with different papers and grid structures, but the goal was to make them all feel like part of the same story while keeping them unique.
